Meet Cooper, my 10 year old furry four legged child.  He’s making his blog debut today on MY blog!  He actually had his own blog when he was a puppy haha!  We are savoring the near 60 degree days we’ve had the last few days of November.  No coat, no problem!

What’s not to like about this off the shoulder flannel top?  It’s so soft and I love the detail of the split bell sleeves.  I found it at TJ Maxx yesterday.  HERE and HERE are similar styles in other colors. I’ve been on a road rally to several TJ’s, Homegoods, and Marshall’s this week with my mother inlaw who just moved to the area and is searching for some new items to replace/update 30 years worth of home goods from her previous home.  Right up my alley!  I love the thrill of the hunt.

I paired it with some basic black leggings.  HERE is a similar pair.  The taupe over the knee boots break up the black and I just can’t wear them enough!

My black scarf is so old.  I actually need to replace it.  I’ll add it to my hunt list!

Coop is a man of style himself.  He loves a good sweater or hoodie.  I’m serious.  He actually gets excited when I pull one out for him!  I love him in a bow tie.  Most of his are from Target including this striped one.  All the fresh air has my little man passed out on the couch next to me.

I’ve been wearing my blanket scarves nonstop.  I’ve started experimenting with different ways to wear them.  Here I folded it in a triangle, folded it in 3-4 inch section from the small end to the big, tied the ended together, put it over my head, twisted it and put over my head again to give it a infinity scarf look.  HERE is a similar style. (Look like you can still get the Cyber Monday 30% off deal with code cyber16)

I bought this sweater tunic last winter.  HERE is a similar style minus the faux leather detailing and it’s on major sale!  Faux fur vests never seem to go out of style so I always have one to rotate through my fall and winter wardrobe.  This one is a few years old but HERE is a similar style.

I practically live in leggings.  I have plenty in my collection for my regular Pilates workouts but I also have a few go tos for casual wear.  These Rag & Bone’s are my absolute favorite.  I scored them at Nordstrom Rack last year.  You want something a little thicker to support you, keep you warm and that’s not sheer like THIS pair (also on a killer sale!).

I’ve been so happy with my burgundy booties and have worn them tons.  Great color and super comfy!

I’ve had these faux leather gloves for awhile and they’ve come in super handy this fall since it’s been so mild.  When it’s cool enough to want something on but not cold enough to need every inch of skin covered these are a must have.  HERE is a similar style.

Have you started your Christmas shopping?  There are still so many great sales going on.  I’ll keep you updated on any great finds I make.

Black Friday // JCrew Sale

What kind of goodies have you scored today with the fabulous Black Friday sales?  The good news that if you aren’t up for battling the crowds, you don’t have to and there is still time to get deals online today!

Check out your favorite stores online to see what specials they are running.  I’m in a plaid kind of mood and one of the best places to get it is J. Crew.  Today, for the first time ever, they are offering 40% off everything online and in store!

Of course they have so much more than plaid but here are some of my favorite pieces:

  1. Pajama Pant in Festive Plaid

I had a pj addiction for awhile and had to put myself in a pj buying time out!  I think it’s been long enough so I’ve begun to allow myself to start looking.  Let me tell you that these were the first that I added to my cart!

2. Bow-Shoulder Top in Festive Plaid

I’m picturing this with black velvet pants/leggings, jeans and a blazer, and a long cardi with a skirt.  So festive for the season upon us!

3. Edie Top in Stewart Plaid

Plaid AND Ruffles?  I can’t think of a more perfect combo.

4. Boy Shirt in Fiery Sunset Buffalo Check

I have a button down similar to this that I purchased there last winter.  I’m actually wearing it right now and got tons of use out of it last season.  I’m wearing it with a long open black cardigan, leopard choker, and distressed boyfriend jeans.  I’ve dressed it up before by wearing it with a skirt, jeweled necklace and heels.  It’s a very versatile piece to have in your collection.

5. Camisole Pajama Set in Red Plaid

More pjs!  If you get super hot when you sleep like I do, these are a great option.  Add some knee socks and a long cardi or robe for lounging around the house.

I had a wonderful day with my family.  It was the first time my husband and I hosted Thanksgiving.  I had a lot of help with cooking and clean up.  I spent this morning finishing off the cleaning and “de-pumpkining” the house inside and out!  I thought I’d go full Christmas mode today but I decided I’d fully tackle that this weekend!  Happy cyber shopping!

My visits to an actual mall are rare in the age of online shopping.  That said, about a month ago I found myself at my local mall for a few returns.  While I was in Macy’s I noticed that they had a Bobbi Brown counter which I thought was probably new.  I happened to be in need of a replacement of one of my favorite beauty products from them so I made my way over there.  The sales lady invited me to a beauty trend show that Macy’s would be hosting.  It was the first this store had hosted and they were doing it in celebration of their 20th anniversary at that mall.

The event was this weekend and even though none of my girlfriends were available to go, I decided to go check it out.  I am not afraid to shop alone!  To attend participants were required to register with one of the beauty counters in advance and purchase a $25 gift card that they would receive at the event and could use anywhere in the store.  In addition, each participant would receive a swag bag filled with samples from various beauty brands.

The morning started out with a light continental breakfast and a few words from the store and department managers as participants were seated in the mall outside the department store.  We received our swag bags and were surprised with an additional $10 gift card.  Well at least I was surprised!

We were then encouraged to visit the various beauty counters for make up tips, other goodies, raffles, and makeovers.  I had scheduled my makeover with Bobbi Brown so I immediately headed over there.  I came wearing only moisturizer and foundation knowing this was scheduled.  I’m pretty picky about my foundation and the level of coverage so I opted to stick with what I know works for me in that area.

The makeup artist that worked with me asked me what I was interested in and tailored her approach from there.  I knew in advance that I wanted to try their Sequin Eyeshadows so she pulled the 4 colors they had and I narrowed it down to 2 that I might like.  She gave me a light daytime smokey eye using the Chocolate Eye Palette with the Sequin Eyeshadows layered over top.

For mascara she used the Smokey Eye Mascara.  I like that the brush was a little smaller than the Eye Opening Mascara that I currently have but still gave some drama.

She introduced me to a few other products as any good sales person should.  One that I was really interested in was the Artstick in Bare.  It was a little alarming when she first brought it over.  It is a massively chubby lip pencil but girls it’s amazing!!  It comes with a pencil sharpener so you don’t have to worry about finding one that fits.  You line your lips with the tip and then use the side to fill in the rest.  It goes on so creamy smooth and with a matte finish.  She layered a gloss over top that I didn’t take note of because I have so many already but knew that I would be happy wearing the Artstick on it’s own as well.

I haven’t really worn concealer in awhile but have been thinking about it recently to brighten my under eye area.  I’ve shied away from wearing it there because I didn’t want to draw attention to my fine lines that might crease.  I’ve realized that you really just have to find the right one and have the appropriate skin care to make it work.  She used a Retouching Wand on me that it perfect for throwing in your handbag or for travel.  Unfortunately they were out of stock of the color she used on me so I have it on my wish list for the future.

They were also sold out of all of the Sequin Eye Shadows but I was able to order it online once I got home.  I went with Golden Chocolate which has a beautiful gold sparkle to it.  I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

From there I wasn’t quite sure what do at the other counters since I had just basically just had a full makeover.  I wasn’t really interested in starting from scratch.  At the Dior counter they suggested darkening up my eye a bit for a more dramatic night time look.  Why not?  The makeup artist there added a darker brown shadow from the Splendor Couture Colors And Effects Eyeshadow Palette in Precious Embroideryto my crease and another layer of mascara. This palette is stunning and has all of the colors I love!

At the Clinique counter I spun the prize wheel only to win an eye makeover!  Ahh!  I explained that I had just had my eyes done and that I’d pass.  After talking with the sales lady about my blog she offered to give me some samples of her favorite products to try.  Clinique was one of the first department store brands that I started on as a teenager so it was a little nostalgic to see that some of the products that I used then are still around and some of their best sellers.  I was curious about some of the newer products.  I’ve been trying some of them out over the past few days and I’ll have to give you a report of my faves soon.

I tried out some of the beautiful fragrances at Burberry and Coach and even modeled one of the Coach gold totes.  I can’t find it on online but THIS one is similar.

Before I left I noticed that they had a hair stylist on hand.  I gave her free reign to do whatever she wanted.  She simply pinned my hair back into a loose up do.  I rarely wear my hair back so it was fun to do something different.

I received many compliments on my outfit which included some of my fave items.  Dramatic sleeves are a huge trend right now.  I found this bell sleeve sweater at the H&M in Sydney a few weeks ago.  I don’t see the exact one online but HERE and HERE are similar styles.

I bought my skirt last year but HERE and HERE are similar options.  I FINALLY got my new over the knee boots in the mail!  There was a little shipping snafu which is really unusual.  I posted about them last month but decided they were a little big and ordered a half size smaller.

It was the first day that I really could have used a warm coat but my sweater and blanket scarf, similar HERE,  were enough to get me from my car to the store so I didn’t have to lug one around!

It was a great event and fun to try out some new products.  Happy Anniversary Somerset Macy’s!

Holiday party season will be here before you know it!  It’s definitely time to start thinking about what to wear.  There’s nothing more stressful than waiting until the last minute to find that perfect look.

I’m the type of shopper that likes to have dresses on hand so that I’m not in a panic to find one when I need it.  If I see one I like and it’s a good price I often buy it and tuck it away for the right occasion.  This little black dress falls into that category.  Of course I was attracted to the cold shoulder style on top of the ruffles.  So girly!  I stumbled upon it this week at my local TJ Maxx but I’ve found similar options for you HERE, HERE, and HERE (this one is on sale for $12.99….WHAT??…I know but only a few sizes left!).

I have a thing for sparkly things year round but especially during the holidays.  I picked up these dazzling gold lace up heels at DSW a few weeks ago knowing I would definitely get some use out of them.  Unfortunately they are now sold out online but maybe you can find them in the clearance section in your store.  They also came is an equally pretty pewter color.  They are available in black HERE.

THESE lace up heels are quite similar and come in a few colors.  I think the cranberry color would be so pretty and the steele looks like it might have a little sparkle!  HERE is a final style that is comparable.

My sister bought this clutch for me years ago when she hosted a Gigi Hill party in her home.  I’m not sure the company is still in business but HERE is a similar gold chevron clutch.

Holiday Gift Guide for Her

I’m not usually one to do much Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving but with with all of the holiday decor out in the stores right now it’s starting to weigh on my mind.  Thanksgiving is next week so it’s really not that early to start thinking about what to get.

I struggle with gift giving because I know what I like but I’m a little unsure of what my friends or family would want.  I also end up finding more for myself!  It’s just so hard especially with all of the great deals out there this time of year!  I try to stick with of the moment essentials and that’s what I’ve put together for you.

Keep scrolling to find gift ideas to spoil your friend, sister, mom, or any female with……all are under $50!

  1. I talked about these in yesterday’s post.  Faux fur bag charms can be used as keychains or simply clipped to your purse or bag for a fun touch.  You’d be hard pressed not to find one while you are out shopping but HERE is one and it comes in a variety of colors.

2. Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Gift Sets are a must get.  You should probably get one for yourself too!  I have one and have already given one away as a gift.  It comes with four .03 oz stick for $38.  One .05 oz stick is $29 so getting four slightly smaller sticks for $38 is a not only a great deal but a perfect way to try a variety of shades that pair perfectly together. They can be used individually or in different combinations are all over shadow, liner, and highlighter.  It is a beautiful palette of colors with a subtle sparkle to them.

3. This is an easy yet safe option.  Everyone NEEDS a blanket scarf.  I don’t care what climate you live in.  You are going to want this lightweight, yet cozy accessory that can be worn a number of ways around your neck, over your shoulders, or even used as an actual blanket as I have done on an airplane or a movie theater.  They come in solids and a variety of prints but plaid is my personal favorite.  HERE is one and it’s on SALE!

4. Plaid buttons downs are such a versatile piece and, in my opinion, everyone should have a couple in their rotation.  They can be worn simply with jeans, dressed up with heels and jewels, layered with sweaters and vests.  The possibilities are endless!  I have a few from Beach Lunch Lounge and they are so soft!  THIS ONE comes in a few colors.

fall accessories

5. Open up any magazine or flip on the tv and you’re sure to find at least a few woman wearing chokers.  They’re back and they are not your 90’s chokers!  I, for one, cannot get enough of this trend.  But, for someone that is interested in the trend but not ready to fully commit, THIS delicate gold choker is the perfect one to start with.  I’m wearing mine right now!

6. Ear Climbers or Crawlers are another hot accessory right now.  Instead of a post with a backing they have a longer post that bends up behind your lobe to pinch in place.  I love these gold pave triangle ear climbers because they are simple yet pretty.

7. These tassel earrings make a fun statement.  I’m partial to the blush color because it’s a great neutral but they come in other colors if the person you’re shopping for is a little more bold .

8. Surprisingly I have not busted my winter hats out yet but it won’t be long before I do.  I have a couple pom beanies and they are so cozy and fun.  HERE is a super cute option.   You can find this style many other places but this one is on SALE!

9. I may have a slight problem with over buying long open cardigans.  They are just so comfortable whether you are lounging around the house or even using them in place of a light jacket.  I don’t have THIS exact one but Free People is one of my favorite brands.  I love the stripes in this one.  I may or may not have added it to my shopping cart!

What’s on your shopping list for the ladies in your life?  I’d love to get some other ideas!

My husband had the afternoon off for our final day in Melbourne so I took him all over the city to see as much as we could.  I was so proud of myself for packing great shoe choices for as much walking as I did on this trip.  You can still look cute and be comfortable!  My booties fit the bill.  HERE is a similar style.

If you haven’t seen one of these faux fur pom pom keychains/purse charms you haven’t been shopping recently!  They’re everywhere.  I picked this one up at TJ Maxx a few months ago but you can literally get something like it at almost any store that sells accessories. HERE is one.

Australians are in their late spring with summer on their minds.  In Sydney we experienced summer like temperatures but it was a little cooler in Melbourne – unseasonably cold I was told by many locals.  Luckily I was prepared for the sweater weather!

I picked up this oversized draped dolman surplice Free People sweater from TJ Maxx a few months ago.  It’s pretty lightweight and the oversized look gives it a soft comfy feel.  HERE and HERE are similar styles.

I layered a strappy cami underneath.  You could also reverse the sweater and wear it with a lacy or strappy bralette for another look.  Two outfits in one? Check!

You can’t go wrong with distressed skinny jeans (similar HERE) and booties (similar HERE) for a cool casual look.

I never did an announcement of which sunglasses won the election.  I should probably do that.  I ended up keeping two pairs and these mirrored cat eye sunglasses were one of them.  I get compliments on them every time I wear them.  I loved them all and am seriously considering rebuying one of the pairs I returned!  Is that bad?

My primary reason for being in Australia was because my husband had business meetings there.  While he had a few days to explore with me, much of the time I spent exploring on my own.  There was a day that he knew he had to work late so he suggested I go on a wine tour.  Um ok!

Our hotel concierge was able to get me on a small group wine tour at the last minute.  Nicci from Epicurean Wine Tours picked me up at my hotel and off we went to scoop up two british couples for the hour and 15 minute drive to the Yarra Valley wine region.

I’ve been to Napa a few times and some other small wineries in northern Michigan but let me tell you the Aussie’s do not mess around with their wine tastings.  We visited 4 tasting rooms, or cellar doors as they call them, and we tried 9-10 different wines at each one!  The first also had a cheese pairing which was amazing.  We had a two course meal with a full glass of wine after the third tasting.  It was a lovely experience and I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to go.
